2024 Tandem Foundation Donates $50K to Local Davis Schools

Tandem Properties continued their annual tradition of funding grant requests to local educators at this year’s Tandem Foundation, hosted May 22nd in the Tandem Properties garden.

Local educators from 13 Davis Joint Unified schools gathered along with Tandem’s owners and directors to hear from teachers regarding how the grants would impact students. Members of the Davis High School Orchestra program, Michael Wang, Caitlyn Ohler, Hoaching Liu, and Jennifer Lee provided music for the event as educators gathered in the garden.

Educators explained how the grants would support items such as expanding nonfiction reading collections not fully covered by PTA funding, replacing an original scoreboard for the athletics program at Emerson Junior high, and bringing things like microscopes to support the new Earth science class offered at Holmes Junior High.

During an address from Tandem Managing Partner –John Whitcombe, where he explained the impact of local schools on his own family and children, Mr. Whitcombe explained that he hoped this year’s grants would give educators independence in their choices regarding how they support students.

For the past 23 years, the Tandem Foundation has distributed up to $40,000 annually to the Davis public schools.

Tandem Director of Human Resources, Roxana Pana, explained that this year the Tandem Foundation received 64 requests totaling $169,455. In the reception event’s program, the Tandem Properties’ team noted, “We are delighted to fully fund 36 requests and partially fund 3 requests totaling $50,000. It is our hope that the Tandem Foundation will be able to continue our tradition of supporting our community and its youth.”
