Stunning Music Concerts in Davis and Woodland, December 8th & 9th

One of the best things about the holiday season is the dazzling array of music available.

Davis and Woodland are the lucky locations for two concerts given by the Vocal Arts Ensemble, which “brings together experienced musicians pursuing artistic expression through finesse of the human voice. Appealing to both the discerning musician and the casual music lover, performances feature a capella choral pieces and intimate instrumentals or mesmerizing dance. VAE aims to present exquisite evenings of music. Themed performances celebrate the elegant beauty of Renaissance motets, tonal color of modern works, and exotic flavor of music from other cultures.”

According to the Daily Democrat:

This holiday season the Vocal Art Ensemble of Davis, under the direction of Tracia Barbieri, hopes to mesmerize its audience with the sounds of the East as they gather silken songs, choral gems, instrumental spices, and exquisite tapestries of vocal beauty.

This rich and varied concert experience sets ancient jewels from the Old and New Worlds, melds divine male plainchant with luscious Eastern European women’s chorus, and weaves together elegant Polish Magnificats with vibrant Zambian celebrations.

The concert will also feature exotic and ethnic dancers from Davis’ Fiesta DanceN’ Fitness: Multicultural Arts & Wellness, stirring your sense of adventure on a musical journey of minstrels and dance under the Magi’s crystal skies.

Concerts are planned for:

  • 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Ave., Sacramento.
  • 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Woodland Presbyterian Church, 1324 Columbia Drive, Woodland.
  • 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, United Methodist Church of Davis, 1620 Anderson, Davis.

The Vocal Art Ensemble is a 22-member a capella choir approaching its fifth anniversary in the spring of 2013. Under Barbieri’s direction, the group has brought sublime, artistically expressive choral pieces from the early European, multi-ethnic and modern repertoire to audiences in  Davis, Sacramento, Woodland and Dixon.

The suggested donation for the concerts is between $6 and $20.
