Jimmy LaFave Palms Playhouse, Winters CA It’s been far too long since Oklahoma raised and Austin artist singer and songwriter Jimmy LaFave has been around these parts. Long noted as one of the truly great and soulful singers anywhere, LaFave brings his Oklahoma/Austin rooted country and folk sound back to The Palms. Since the late 80’s LaFave has been an important figure in the vibrant Austin music scene. He has released critically acclaimed albums including Austin Skyline, Highway Trance, Texoma and Cimmaron Manifesto. With his connection with Oklahoma and his love for the music of Oklahoma legend Woody Guthrie, LaFave has established a close relationship with the Guthrie family and was asked to perform and speak at the induction of Woody into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. LaFave also toured with a Woody Guthrie tribute show called “Ribbon of Highway- Endless Skyway” which played here some years ago. LaFave is a tremendous artist. As music writer Dave Marsh wrote of LaFave….“Jimmy LaFave has one of America’s greatest voices…It’s a unique instrument, with startling range and its own peculiar sense of gravity, liable to swoop in and wreck your expectations at any instant.”8:00 pm $20 |
