Fun and Easy City of Woodland Online Water Calculator Helps Manage Water Usage

Even when the rain is lashing against your windows, like it is right now, it’s important for Davis and Woodland residents to remember that we live in a Mediterranean climate that is prone to droughts. If we get into the habit of being smart with our water usage, we won’t need to tighten our belts quite so much the next time there’s a shortage.

The city of Woodland is now offering a fun and easy way to measure your average water usage with their water calculator.

The Water Calculator automatically compares estimated water use against an average home and efficient home in the same region with the same number of residents. The Water Calculator also estimates the carbon footprint of household hot water use and helps identify areas where improved water efficiency may be possible.

It is a really neat device that lets you tailor your answers on your home’s water usage and then see how you stack up in 11 different categories against the average for your size household and also against the hard-core conservationists. It also spells out your carbon footprint in the tons of CO2 you use with water usage per year. (For the record, we did better than the average in five categories, met it in three and embarrassingly exceeded it in three.)

Once you have a clear idea of how much water you’re using and where it’s going, you can then get clear, easy tips on how to cut down on usage and rein in your carbon footprint.

Thanks, City of Woodland!
