We couldn’t have asked for a milder winter so far. If you’ve been spending as much time outside lately as we have, you may be looking around your Tandem apartment garden or greenbelt space and chatting with your roommate about ways to perk it up. Buzzfeed.com had some great ideas on how to do that. Here are some of our favorites.

Epsom salts make the best and easiest fertilizer.
It’s considered the secret to a lovely, lush garden. For potted plants, dissolve 2 tablespoons of epsom salts per gallon of water, and substitute this solution for normal watering at least once a month. Or sprinkle it into the soil before planting seeds.
