Winter Internship and Career Fair – February 13, 2013

If you’re looking for a job or an internship, we suggest you hoppy-scop over to the winter internship and career fair at the ARC Pavilion on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. An exhaustive list of the 135 participating companies and what they’re looking for is available here.

The event runs 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Even if you aren’t looking for a position yet, this is a great opportunity to meet people and polish your chatting-up skills. Recruiters fall all over themselves to scoop up the candidates who can have a polite, professional conversation and sell themselves well.

Don’t forget to bring several copies of your resume. If you don’t have one, or need to brush yours up, we like these these suggestions. We know you may not have a lot of experience at this point in your life. That’s okay, the recruiters know that too. Don’t discount the value of volunteer work, skills you’ve learned as a Scout, helping neighbors or family members, summer/part-time jobs, etc. Recruiters are looking for any sign that you are a responsible, problem-solver who will be an asset to them, not a hindrance.

My favorite piece of resume-writing advice from a beloved former boss was, “Never put on your resume anything you don’t want to do again.”
